One of the ongoing anomaly of theHarry Potterseries is the differing claim of the first adventure . In America , the first outing of J.K. Rowling ’s most famous creation isHarry Potter and the Sorcerer ’s Stone , but jolly much everywhere else on the satellite , it’sHarry Potter and the Philosopher ’s Stone .
So why did the name change ?

It date back to when the rights were sold for the first book : Scholastic Corporation bought the U.S. publication rights for what was then known asHarry Potter and the Philosopher ’s Stone , forking outa comparably high $ 105,000 for the prerogative . Arthur A. Levine , who headed the Scholastic children ’s depression that would publish the al-Qur’an , knew he hada winneron his hands — he just had some reservations about the title of respect .
In Philip W. Errington ’s biography on Rowling , hewrotethat Levine want “ a rubric that said ‘ magical ’ more overtly to American readers . " Levine was concerned thatPhilosopher ’s Stonewould feel " arcane , " soone ofthe proposed alternatives wasHarry Potter and the School of Magic , which Rowling shot down . Eventually , the author suggestedSorcerer ’s Stone , and that ’s how the Koran is have sex in the U.S. marketplace where Scholastic had the rightfulness .
Rowling later admit in a web chat for BBC Red Nose Day in 2001 that sheregrettedthe decision . When asked if it bothered her that the name of the leger had been vary in the U.S. , she pen that " they changed the first championship , but with my consent . To be honest , I wish I had n’t agreed now , but it was my first book , and I was so grateful that anyone was put out me I wanted to keep them happy … "
The variety in title would also be reflected in the first film when it came out in 2001 . However , the inconsistencies ended there as the stay on six books all had uniform gens .
