Taylor Swift’s big reputation brought in blockbuster earnings at the box office.
The pop superstar’s concert filmTaylor Swift: The Eras Tourarrived in theaters on Oct. 12 and pulled massive crowds opening weekend. According to distributor AMC Theatres, the movie brought in $92.8 million in ticket sales over its three-day debut period and Thursday night previews, making it the fifth-biggest opening of any theatrical release this year.

The concert movie is now the fifth-biggest opening of the year. It followsGreta Gerwig’s hugely successfulBarbiemovie,The Super Mario Bros. Movie,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-VerseandGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. (Barbiebrought in athree-day haul of $162 million,The Super Mario Bros. It beats outOppenheimer, which opened at $82 million and arrived in theatersin tandem withBarbie.
While the film was originally scheduled to open on Oct. 13, Swift announced at thepremiere eventin Los Angeles on Wednesday that it would hit theaters one day earlier. On that Thursday night alone — which superseded the first date that many fans purchased advanced tickets for —Varietyreported that the film brought in $2.8 million.

The new release also broke a major box office record in the concert film genre. BecauseTaylor Swift: The Eras Touropened at $92.8 million, it became thehighest-grossing concert film of all time. Over just its opening weekend, the film surpassedJustin Bieber’s 2011 documentaryNever Say Never, which earned $73 million domestically throughout its run, perBox Office Mojo.
According toVariety,Taylor Swift: The Eras Tourtechnically became the highest-grossing concert film in history before it even arrived in theaters. Thanks to advance global ticket sales that amounted to $100 million, the project brought it $1 million more thanJustin Bieber: Never Say Never’s $99 million total global earnings.

As soon as tickets went on sale in early September,Taylor Swift: The Eras Touraccomplished several feats. The filmbroke an all-time recordfor single-day AMC advance ticket sales and became Fandango’s best first-day ticket seller of the year so far.
No other major new releases hit theaters this past weekend against Swift’s theatrical event, in part becauseThe Exorcist: Believerpreviouslypushed up its release dateone week earlier to Oct. 6.

The theatrical concert experience is currently being shown at cinemas nationwide four times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Tickets for the film cost $19.89 (plus tax) for adults and $13.13 (plus tax) for kids and seniors, in a nod to the Grammy winner’s birth date and year.
It is unclear how long the nearly three-hour film will be in theaters, although AMC is currentlyselling ticketsthrough Nov. 5.
