On April 1, the Nebraska zoo announced that its greater one-horned rhino, Jontu, died on March 28. According toOmaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, Jontu died from complications related to a gastrointestinal illness. He was 15. The zoo’s staff will remember Jontu for his calm attitude and gentle demeanor. “He was the best boy… ever,” Jami Ruether, a senior keeper at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, said in a statement....

On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the beginning of aninvestigation of ProSource Inc. of Hailey, Idaho, due to potentially contaminated onions. The food safety alert revealed that the onions — which originated in Mexico, and were shipped to ProSource for distribution — were the source of a multi-state Salmonella outbreak....

Three young mountain lion cubs have found a new home atCheyenne Mountain Zooin Colorado Springs, Colorado, after being orphaned in Washington state.The six-week-old cubs were found in their den last week when the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to a human-wildlife conflict that resulted in the death of the cubs’ mother, according to a press release from the zoo.The WDFW then worked with a Species Survival Plan coordinator to find a new home for the cubs, who were unable to survive on their own in the wild....
