On Wednesday, the 35-year-old twin sisters announced that they will not take part in the E! reality show’s upcoming season.

After filming eight straight seasons ofTotal Divas (while also appearing in their spin-offTotal Bellas), Nikki and Brie said they decided it was time to slow things down.
“We filmed all year long,” added Nikki. “When other people would get breaks from the reality cameras, Brie and I would be filming the next season ofBellasand then we’d go straight intoDivas.”

Nikki said it became emotionally taxing having cameras follow their every move — especially during “hard times.” Much of Nikki’spublic breakupfrom fiancéJohn Cenaplayed outTotal Bellasover the summer.
“With my breakup, that just showed me that when you have hard times and life and you keep filming, it’s just really hard on someone mentally,” she said. “We had to let go of one show just to keep sanity.”
“We have to live our lives twice,” she continued. “When you have that bad moment in your life, you have to realize the bad. I know for me, that was exhausting, living my life twice.”
Brie also saidbeing a momhelped contribute to her decision to step away from the show.
“I don’t want Birdie to grow up in front of the cameras,” she said. “I don’t want her to think that it’s a normal life.”
But while they will no longer be principle cast members on the show, Nikki and Brie will still make an appearance from time to time.
“We are no longer onTotal Divas,” said Nikki. “We will now be focusing on justTotal Bellasand theBellas Podcast, as well as other things going on in our lives.”
