A mysterious green goblin caused quite the stir at the2023 Emmys Awardson Monday night.
While her fellow cast mates dressed to the nines,RuPaul’s Drag Racestar Princess Poppy showed up in a head-to-toe green ensemble that also included pop culture references likeJabba the Hutt, Roz fromMonsters, Inc., and a witch from the 1985Tom CruisemovieLegend.
And the outfit played exactly the way she thought it would.

“I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this. I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head,” Poppy toldEntertainment Weeklywhile on the red carpet.
“Mainly I wanted to be a troll-slash-hag. I wanted to be so shocking that you just have to turn and look at me — in the worst way possible.”

Over-the-top as the ensemble may have been, it was quite apropos asDrag Racecontinued its reality television domination at the Emmy Awards. The long-running series won outstanding reality competition program.
During his acceptance speech, the show’s host RuPaul also took a moment to send out a call to action, saying, “If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power, and if someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you. So listen to a drag queen!”
