Marceline the Vampire Queen was a luck of fun in her first appearances on Adventure Time , but nobody could have foreshadow how much she ’s evolved , and how much of a gripping , key part of the series she ’s become . We talked to Olivia Olson , who voice Marceline , about Marcy ’s relationships … and her future .

Marceline just star in her very own miniseries , Stakes , whichcomes out on DVD next workweek . So we were favorable enough to speak to Olson on the earpiece about Marceline and her journeying .
In “ Stakes , ” we instruct a caboodle more about how Marceline became a vampire , and why she blames herself for a lot of the wipeout she ’s caused . The end of that miniseries is the first time we really get to see her holding herself responsible , because she finally let her guard down , sound out Olson . “ She ’s such stiff main chracter most of the time , so to see that she has those feelings of doubt , and not is really feel herself , is really nerveless to toy . ” At the end of the miniseries , Marceline realizes that , “ Okay , this is my living , and I just have to dispense with it . ”
At first , when Olson visit that Marceline was being cured of vampirism , she thought they were getting ready to kill her off . She only get the scripts for that miniseries a workweek at a time , as they were immortalize , so she was in major suspense about how Marceline would escape being wed to a windmill and exposed to sunlight , and all the other dangers she ’s put into . Because the episodes were shown on consecutive 24-hour interval the devotee actually got to recognize how the story turned out more quickly than Olson did .
Marceline “ has switch so much , ” says Olson . “ She ’s progressed a muckle as a eccentric . ” Back in season one , “ she was more of this cut-up , ” and was place up as a “ funny opponent character towards Finn and Jake . ” Over time , she ’s turn into their close friend , and we ’ve learned more about her tragic backstory that helps to explain why she was so intend when we first met her .
Back in season one , too , Marceline seemed like she was just a teenager . “ I remember she was sort of stuck in those sort of ways , because physically , she has n’t exchange , ” says Olson . “ I intend she was just hide a lot of her worked up annoyance , and just essay to be sort of the fun prankster friend . ” But after the case of “ Stakes , ” she ’s matured a passel , and we ’ll see her in a new light , says Olson .

Meanwhile , Olson says Marceline is always holding onto hope that she can get her Quaker Simon Petrikov back from the curse that wrench him into the Ice King . She saw a gleaming of hope in the sequence “ Betty , ” where Simon is briefly back and know who she is . “ I cerebrate she see to it him slipping away into this crazy Modern dissimilar person , who does n’t really bonk her , ” allege Olson . “ I retrieve she ’s aware that it ’s a long barb . She does n’t want to get her hope up about it . There ’s always go to be that hope there , ” and Marceline will always be “ wanting him to just snap out of it . ” She has no theme what will happen with Marcy and Simon , but she does n’t think anything will fall out quickly . Still , Marceline will be there if and when Simon needs her .
Meanwhile , a lot of these recent episodes have raise some question about Marceline ’s actual father , Hunson Abadeer . “ Who have a go at it what ’s up with Hunson ? ” says Olson . “ Hunson Abadeer is played by my tangible life dada , so it ’s always really fun to act , and play a charater with him , and call my dad ‘ Dad . ’ Marceline and her father have such a strange relationship . It does n’t seem like Marceline is Hunson ’s priority . I think she feel that . ”
In fact , her family relationship with both Simon and her father are kind of standardised , says Olson . “ It ’s pointless to assay and change her dad , and have this good father - girl relationship . ” Olson ca n’t help wonder where Hunson was when Marcy was stuck in a post - apocalyptical hellscape with Simon , and then hunting lamia on her own .
That ’s one of the thing that Olson like about Adventure Time : “ They have these storyline where not everything works out for everyone . When Finn meets his daddy , he ’s building him up , he expects him to be a hero sandwich like Finn , and that ’s so not the case . ” Marceline will always love her Church Father , because “ they ’re crime syndicate , ” but “ there ’s kinfolk that ’s not great to be around , because it ’s a toxic relationship . I suppose it ’s a good thing that Adventure Time puts these kinds of relationship out there , because life does n’t always play in this cookie - cutting tool way . ” This series shows mass that you may have messed - up family relationships and “ still be a strong soul and fare out on top , ” total Olson . That ’s an especially great subject matter to see on children ’s television .
Meanwhile , when it comes to the kinship between Marceline and Princess Bubblegum , “ I have no idea . ” She keeps trying to ask people every day . “ It ’s so funny , because when this whole internet thing blew up , I think it started with me vocalizing , ‘ I ’m Just Your Problem . ’ ” The internet crashed with all these theories and stuff . ”
“ It ’s a really fun storyline , ” say Olson , but she ’s not sure if romance is “ the focal point the show is go to go in . ” There ’s definitely something die on with Marceline and PB , but it could be either a relationship or just a friendship cease in a uncanny mode .
“ I ’m curious as a fan of the show , to see what happens with their unearthly space , ” says Olson . “ I ’m unrestrained to see where the writers take it . I ’m hope to see some Team Bubbeline , but we ’ll see . ” At least in late episodes , they seem to be getting along better . “ They ’re such polar characters . ”
“ I had this conversation with Hynden Walch , who plays Princess Bubblegum , ” add together Olson . “ It ’s so interesting to see where our characters are . Marceline started out as the bad guy , but she ’s in reality the sweetest , prissy , real character . Princess Bubblegum start out out all pinkish and sweet and everyone adores her , but she ’s really kind of dark . We joke that she ’s kind of a German dictator to these candy people . Everything is not what it seems on Adventure Time . ”
