Everyone involved in the first Edge of Tomorrowhas been talking abouta sequel for a while ; they’de love to do it , it depends on timing , we have an mind , all that kind of stuff and nonsense . Well now , for the first sentence , a pregnant step toward actually making the matter has been taken .
Christopher McQuarrie , who wrote the first movie , will produce and develop the script with writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse ( who just write the Jesse Owens film Race ) . Doug Liman , who take aim the master , is also in talks to return as will Cruise . No word if Emily Blunt ’s character will retrovert , but we hope so .
Of course , this is great news , not least because Edge of Tomorrow was one of the best ( if the most generically titled ) movies of 2014 . It means the company involved are excited about this movie and have at least some general estimate of where the story could go . you may bet McQuarrie , who not only wrote the original but is an Oscar - pull ahead screenwriter , will have plenteousness to say too .
McQuarrie is presently prepping the sixth charge : unacceptable film , also with mavin Tom Cruise , which will fall out first , so there ’s no schedule of when EoT2 may pass . It could be correctly after M : I6 , or it could be a class or two after that , or it could be never , if the playscript is n’t proper . Liman was attach to do Gambit , but since leave that task .
Either means , if this movie does happen , I just hope there ’s some direction to duplicate the mechanics and tone of the first motion picture with a storey that ’s as engaging this sentence around .
