I woke up this morning time very excited to see the first footage from The Tomorrow War , the newChris Pratt sci - fi actionfilm directed by Chris McKay ( The Lego Batman Movie ) . Everything we ’d hear about it over the years made it sound like one of those mega - blockbusters we love to geek out about — Independence Day , Jurassic Park , Edge of Tomorrow , that kind of affair . And then I saw the first footage . And my thought was , “ What the hell is this Irish bull ? ”
“ In The Tomorrow War , the humankind is stunned when a chemical group of metre traveler get from the yr 2051 to deliver an urgent content , ” reads the picture ’s official description . “ Thirty years in the next mankind is lose a global war against a deadly alien metal money . The only hope for survival is for soldier and civilians from the present tense to be transported to the futurity and unite the fighting . Among those recruited is eminent school day instructor and folk humanity Dan Forester ( Chris Pratt ) . Determined to save the world for his youthful daughter , Dan team up with a brilliant scientist ( Yvonne Strahovski ) and his alienated father ( J.K. Simmons ) in a desperate quest to rewrite the destiny of the planet . ”
That sound so badass decently ? meter traveling warrior ! Pratt ! Simmons ! Strahovski ! You empathize my excitement . But then here ’s the footage and … yeah .

Oh sure , that footage mentions the time traveling . And we get a glance of an extraterrestrial being . But beyond that , if you said this was an ad for Chris Pratt ’s guest - starring purpose on a CBS military play , I ’d believe you . It ’s just him with a triggerman , walking around . Borrrrring .
The Tomorrow War wo n’t be out for a few more months and , from those quick glimpses of city on fire , we ’re sure future merchandising will be more epic . But a serious first effect , this is not .
