An expectant couple from North Carolina are currently in Hawaii awaiting the birth of their baby . When the fourth dimension comes , they will have a so - called dolphinfish - help birth — a completely whacked idea that experts say is unseasonable on a number of levels .
The couple , Adam and Heather Barrington , are presently staying with Star Newland , the founder of theSirius Institute — an organization devoted to “ dolphinizing ” the planet .
The Charlotte Observerreports :

At the institute , the couple will pass time in the water , form a connexion with a dolphin seedpod they hope will bond with them and in the end their newborn .
“ It is about reconnecting as man with the dolphins so we can coexist in this globe together and memorize from one another , ” tell Heather .
The couple hopes to find this connection during antenatal and postpartum swim with the dolphins .

“ Having that connection with the cod of dolphinfish anytime – even if the birth does n’t happen in the water supply – still brings peace , comforter and strength to the female parent and baby during toil , ” says Heather .
They believe a dolphinfish - help birth will be calming experience and good .
“ It ’s full relaxation for the female parent , ” says Adam . “ Dolphins are very intelligent and heal which in turn calms mother and baby for the whole process , ” adds Heather .

publish in Discover , Christie Wilcox shout out it “ possibly the big idea , ever , ” noting that dolphins are “ wild animals , and they are have a go at it to do some fairly terrible things ” :
Look at how their treat their cleaning lady . manlike dolphins are aggressive , horny devil . Males will abduct and ring - ravishment females with their prehensile penis , using confederation of several males to keep female isolate from the rest of the group . As Miriam Goldsteinonce explained to Slate , “ To keep her in cable , they make aggressive noises , menace motility , and even smack her around with their full dress . And if she tries to swim away , they go after her down . ” Male dolphins do n’t just outrage their females — they ’ve also been known to assert authority by forcibly mount other male .
They also get a kick out of beat on and killing other beast . dolphinfish will flip , nonplus , and kill belittled porpoisesorbaby sharksfor no manifest reason other than they enjoy it , though some have suggestedthe poor porpoises serve as practice for killing the babe of rival Male . That ’s right , not only do dolphin stamp out other animals , they stamp out baby mahimahi using the same brutal tactics . No matter how cute they might seem , dolphins are not cuddly companions ; they are real , large , ocean predators with a caterpillar tread record for violence — even when it comes to human .

Wilcox is worried that the distich could be roughhouse by the dolphin . But she also points to the perfect lack of evidence in support of the claim that the experience is relaxing or soothing . Moreover , as marine biologist Lori Marino hasnoted , “ well-nigh a decade following our initial review , there remains no compelling grounds that DAT is a legitimate therapy or that it affords any more than momentaneous improvements in climate . ”
And givenrecent calls to avoid dolphinfish - human encounters , it ’s a vogue that ’s going against the grain .
