In his late note to investor ( via Apple Insider ) , longtime Apple analyst Ming - Chi Kuo said he require Apple to add up a miniLED display to the 11 - column inch iPad Pro and the MacBook Air in 2022 , the latter of which is also set to get a revamp design .
The move to miniLED with this year ’s 12.9 - inch iPad Pro was decisive to upping the iPad ’s display quality . Apple ’s Liquid Retina XDR engineering science ( which is Apple ’s official name for its miniLED screen ) disport a whopping 10,000 LED divide into 2,596 local dimming zones , which improves contrast , color saturation , and overall smartness , with Apple ’s miniLED covert capable of outputting up to 1,600 nit in certain conditions .
