Once upon a metre , legend told of a witching charging pad that could power up a smartphone , scout , and wireless earbuds all at the same clip . Reports from topical anaesthetic who claimed to have seen it even mentioned that it bore a mark that take care like half - eaten yield . However , despite all the prophecies and rumors , no one has been able-bodied to show proof of such a equipment actually subsist . So armed with a dream and some gadgets , I set out on a pursuance to rule that mythic wireless charging pad .

The sweet spot for charge each gimmick is pretty limited and requires more preciseness than you might think , cord is hardwired .

In the end , what I found is theSliceCharge , which looks and functions a sight like Apple ’s fabled AirPower charging mat . Sort of . OK , so the one I test for this review is blue and not white like the vaporware Apple twit last year , and the technology inside is credibly different than what ever Apple has planned . But aside from that , the SliceCharge wait incredibly standardized to that oneAirPower concept shotApple released .

The top of the SliceCharge is covered by a textured cloth that feels kind of like linen paper , while the bottom is Al to give the affair a bit of stability . The only other noted strong-arm characters about the SliceCharge is its hardwired king electric cord — which at about two and a one-half feet long — is sadly shortsighted than idealistic . Oh , one more thing . The SliceCharge does n’t come with a power brick . That mean you ’re blend in to necessitate to buy one or find an unused one lie around , rather with a USB Type - A port and Qualcomm QuickCharge 3 support to ensure that you get the most out of the SliceCharge ’s capabilities .

Once you ’ve got the power brick thing sort out out , things should be fluid navigate from there flop ? After all , how complicated can a wireless charger be ? Well , it ’s not so dewy-eyed , because even though it look you should be able to just dispose your gadgets on top and permit them power up , things are n’t quite that light .

That ’s because the SliceCharge is actually three wireless chargers smash together , with two Qi - compatible pad on either end , and a third charger jammed in the middle specifically contrive to reload an Apple Watch . Other gimmick like a Samsung Galaxy Watch or Qi - radio wo n’t charge when placed in the midriff .

moreover , while the entire domain of the SliceCharge is pretty generous , the actual sweet office for where you may successful recharge each gadget is n’t almost as full-grown . This sometimes means you ’re force to fiddle with the position of each contraption to ensure it ’s receive a billing , or else you launch the risk of infection that you come back minutes or hours subsequently only to find your convenience still gasping for succus .

That said , I found that after a few days utilisation , you do tend to become familiar with where things should go , though I still wish there was just a bit more flexibility or maybe even some markings to do away with some of the dead reckoning .

And as advertised , the SliceCharge does send 7.5 watts of power to both terminal . And with both the left and right side featuring supporting for Qi wireless charging , it does n’t really matter which side of the charger you choose to rest your phone .

One other little caveat is that when Apple first announced Airpower , they showed the mat charging up an iPhone , Apple Watch and a pair of Airpods . However , since Apple has n’t actually release AirPods with wireless charge support , if you need to get the same result on your wireless bud , you will take a radio charging minimal brain damage - on for your AirPods . Unsurprisingly , Hard Cider Labs makes something called the ElectroLeather that does just that . However , as the SliceCharge is based off the Qi radio set charging standard , you are n’t required to use ElectroLeather , as any AirPods wireless charging adapter should shape . Regardless of which wireless adapter you go with , if you get a SliceCharge , you will want to look for one with an index light so you could make certain your AirPods are get succus once you flump them down .

So at the finis of this particular quest , while the SliceCharge does n’t quite to the full give birth on the legend of the mythological AirPower , it is a bare choice to putting three individual radio charge pads on your nightstand . And with a Mary Leontyne Price of just $ 60 , it ’s moderately affordable too .

The SliceCharge really can power up three gadget at once , but it ’s rather finicky , so you ca n’t just toss your gadgets on top and assume they will charge .

The SliceCharge supports up to 7.5 wireless charging , which is the current max for iPhones , but slightly less than some other charging launchpad out there .

If you want to wireless reload AirPods , you ’re going to need an adapter of sorts like Hard Cider Labs’ElectroLeather .

Here’s an example of the SliceCharge’s tolerance between charging and not charging as shown by the white light being off in the pic on the left.

May not number with a power brick ( depending on marketplace ) , so you ’ll call for your own . And its power cord is hardwired , so you ’ll need an adapter with a USB - A larboard .

useable in red , livid , and blue .
