Almost a year ago today , Anonymous hacked one of Australian topnotch villain Rupert Murdoch ’s poll gem : The Times . Why?To circularise a untrue report of his death . A year later , he ’s shutting them up like rowdy child . Times have changed .
LulzSec Hacks The Times with Brutal Murdoch Death Notice
The tweet state of war that was n’t started with a little casual invective from @YourAnonNews , one of the hacker collective ’s de facto mouthpieces online . In the past , it ’s been among the first places to report the great coups of LulzSec and the alike — these days , it ’s not doing much of anything . So it was exciting to see the account take on Rupert Murdoch , a man for whom Anonymous has nothing but scorn , and a record of successful onslaught . They humble him last twelvemonth , after all , more than any pie to the face could have .
And then this fall out .

It was amazing to see Murdoch respond to the hackers that ’d internet stamp out him last year . And though you might disagree with his answer , he give a reply — and a civil one . Whether it ’s factual or not is beside the head — Rupert Murdoch tweeted back at Anonymous , like Miley Cyrus tweet at a paparazzo flock . He was feeding the troll — someone secern him that ’s a bad theme ! But it wasn’t — Anonymous ’ reply was merely acknowledging that Murdoch twitch back at them . Uh , pretty vicious , guys .
A little later they tweet this : “ Ohai @rupertmurdoch of the 35 or so major newspapers , how many were pro - war ? # NotSoFreePress . ”
But the moment was over . They have Murdoch scold them like the cranky paterfamilias he is . They did n’t do anything about it . They did n’t loose the pack , they did n’t troll him , they did n’t even make petty remarks about his married woman , or something . It was like a sad minute in a dull high shoal argumentation — they packed up their thing , get back on the bus , and then shouted something stunned from the window as it take off . It was a small moment , but lead astray a bigger truth : Anonymous does n’t have any teeth these days . They ca n’t even bemock an old human race online . With its talent arrested or in concealing , the best they help against a man they once handily shoot down on the cyberspace is … politeness ? Not a lot of lulz in that .
